The invention of and installation of the web-cam dramatically improved the way computer users were able to communicate. Initial web-cams weren’t of the highest quality and generally left the visual aspect of communication at something less than desired. Those visual communications have improved dramatically, and now just about every decent laptop or personal computer goes out the door equipped with the capabilities of seeing who you are chatting with.

It wasn’t that long ago that families separated by oceans or continents had to foot the bill for expensive overseas calls. Those days are long gone, and many have joined the millions across the world that are using the video communications device Skype. Skype allows people to talk over the computer, see visual images of one another and do it in a matter that won’t break the bank.

Overseas phone calls used to cost more than a dollar per minute, but may Skype accounts allow users to talk for free or have unlimited talk for virtually nothing. Sharing a birthday or anniversary moment, or even viewing baby’s first steps can all be done via Skype.

As technology improves, the use of virtual communications can only improve upon what is an already stellar concept.
