Skype on Android

Did you know that Skype might be coming to the Android phone? That’s right, users of the Android phone will be excited to know what the popular video conferencing and chatting program may be headed to their favorite phone sometime in the near future. Nothing is definite yet, but they have hinted at it, and Skype executive Rick Osterloh has specifically said that Skype fans should “watch out” for announcements in the future concerning AT&T, which is also the carrier for the iPhone. Skype can already be used on the iPhone through AT&T service, so it wouldn’t be far-fetched to believe that this could happen with the Android soon.

Part of this hinges on the fact that Skype has recently acquired Qix, which is another video chatting and calling service that works on phones that receive service through Sprint and T-Mobile. Skype has already said that they plan to share their own expertise in order to improve the capabilities of Qix, meaning that even on phones on which Skype is not available the essential functionality and abilities of Skype will soon be available. Qix allows users to send videos and video mail as well, and the two companies want to eventually have Skype and Qix services operating side by side or in tandem, though they haven’t given a definite idea yet of when that will be. In any case, the companies involved are hinting quite strongly that the Android device will soon no longer lack an ability to use Skype services.
